Cargo that doesn’t fit
standard freight.
We move it anyway.
Out of gauge loads, AOG movements, abnormal indivisible loads and specialist project cargo across the UK and Europe. Full end-to-end management from route planning through to delivery, with one point of contact throughout.
When standard freight is not the right tool for the job.
Project logistics is not defined by a single weight threshold or dimension. It covers any cargo that requires specialist planning, equipment or routing that falls outside normal freight channels. That might be a single out-of-gauge load on a flatbed, a time-critical aircraft engine on a low-loader with air-ride suspension, or a coordinated series of movements for an entire construction or manufacturing project.
What makes it different is not just the size of the cargo. It is the planning, the permits, the specialist vehicles and the experience to know what can go wrong before it does.
Route surveys. Permits. Specialist vehicles. Police escorts. Storage. And one person responsible for all of it.
TSE manages the complete logistics process for specialist and oversized cargo across the UK and 22+ European countries. We source the right vehicle for the load, arrange any permits required, coordinate escorts where needed, and manage each leg of the journey through to delivery.
We are also straightforward about what a movement involves before it happens. Specialist logistics can carry significant additional costs depending on route, dimensions and timing. We tell you what those might be upfront, so there are no surprises once the job is underway.
An aircraft engine. UK to Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. Hours to deliver.
AOG (Aircraft on Ground) movements are among the most time-sensitive freight jobs there is. An aircraft is grounded until the part or component arrives. Every hour matters to the airline.
TSE coordinated the road movement of a jet engine from the UK to Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. The engine required a flatbed with full air-ride suspension to absorb road vibration and protect the component throughout the journey. Timing, routing and vehicle specification were all managed by a single TSE contact from the initial brief to handover at the airport.
AOG cargo can range from a small box of components to a multi-million pound engine. The common factor is urgency and the requirement for a logistics partner who has done it before and knows what the journey demands.

Meticulous planning before anything moves.
The exact process depends on the cargo, the route and the destination. Not every specialist movement requires the same steps. What every movement requires is careful planning and a team that knows what to ask before the job begins.
The industries that need specialist road logistics.
Project logistics comes up in any sector where goods exceed standard dimensions, where timing is critical or where the cargo requires specialist handling. Whether your load is technically OOG or not, if it presents a challenge that standard freight cannot meet, we can help.
If you are unsure whether your requirement counts as project logistics, tell us the dimensions and we will tell you what is involved.
- Industrial and manufacturing businesses moving large equipment, tanks, cylinders or generators between sites or from European suppliers
- Oil and gas companies requiring specialist transport for plant equipment, pressure vessels and large components
- Aerospace operators and MRO businesses with time-critical AOG requirements
- Construction and infrastructure projects with a series of coordinated movements across multiple origins and delivery sites
- Modular building manufacturers moving pre-assembled structures that exceed standard road dimensions
- Agricultural and grain equipment suppliers where silos, tanks and large structures are OOG as standard
- Renewable energy businesses moving turbine components, blades and related equipment

Most providers lead with what it costs. We start with the right plan.
Specialist logistics carries costs that are difficult to predict with precision upfront. A movement might require the temporary removal of street furniture. Bridges may need to be assessed or temporarily closed. Police escort requirements can change depending on which constabulary covers a stretch of road. Overnight restrictions apply to many abnormal loads.
A logistics partner who does not tell you about these possibilities before you commit is not protecting you from bad news. They are simply delaying it. We had a customer quote a 14,000kg tank that required a bridge trailer, and we advised them to hold a contingency of approximately GBP 40,000 for possible additional costs. That is not comfortable to say. It is necessary to say.
TSE will always give you a realistic picture of what a movement involves before it begins, including what you should budget as contingency and why.
“We don’t just solve problems, we work to understand what caused them and then implement solutions so they don’t occur again.”Tom Stangoe, Founder & Managing Director, T S Europe
What people ask before booking a specialist movement.
Project logistics involves more variables than standard freight. These are the questions that come up most often before a first movement with TSE.
